Established in September of 2001, the Sullivan County Educate and Grow Scholarship Program is an economic development effort designed to develop and maintain a qualified workforce for the region. Educate and Grow is a four-semester scholarship that provides tuition assistance to qualified applicants. To be eligible, individuals must enroll at Northeast State as degree-seeking students the fall semester immediately following high school graduation, have parents or legal guardians who resided in Sullivan County for 12 months prior to the applicant's graduation date, and meet all scholarship deadlines. Educate and Grow is the first scholarship program in the nation to be funded by local government.

The Mountain Empire Community College scholarship encourages Virginia-resident high school students in Lee, Scott, Wise, Dickenson Counties and the City of Norton to complete a challenging curriculum, and to pursue higher education. Students who graduate from high school in 2007 and meet the requirements of the AIMS Scholars (Virginia Scholars) program will have the opportunity to attend up to two years (72 semester credits) of college without paying any tuition or fees out of pocket.

MECC Scholarship applications are available each year in January only from the MECC Financial Aid Office and at financial aid workshops to be conducted by MECC at all high schools between January and May. The scholarship application will include two components: a section to be completed by the student (which must include the Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA), and a section to be completed by the high school guidance counselor.



The McInturff TN/VA Scholar Award - Kingsport is a $1500 scholarship to be used for 2 semesters ($750 per semester) for students who are full-time ETSU at Kingsport students entering the Fall Semester. Any incoming freshman who has been designated a TN/VA Scholar from the previous three years graduating class, is a degree-seeking student and submits an application is eligible for this award. The scholarship committee is particularly interested in a student's extracurricular activities. This could consist of community service activities, church activities, athletics, school functions, etc. In addition, your letter should include your education goals, such as your intended college major, possible career options, etc.
